Suddenly, my interest in gardening was reignited, possibly inspired by my neighbor next door. Back in my hometown during my youth, I used to care for my mom's apple mango tree. My ultimate goal was to savor the delicious fruits that graced the tree. During one fruitful season, I managed to harvest an impressive 200 apple mangoes. Imagine having two mangoes, each weighing around 500 to 600 grams, every day for a month – it was like having an endless supply of mangoes.
However, in the city, space is a precious commodity. Therefore, I decided to embark on a gardening experiment, albeit on a smaller scale and in pots. Mango trees weren't a practical choice, so I settled on something more compact and easy to manage. My choice for this gardening venture was turmeric.
After watching some informative YouTube videos on the planting process, I decided to give it a try. I acquired some turmeric locally and began the planting process. There were a few different methods, so I decided to experiment with all of them.
- I planted some turmeric in a pot and covered it with soil.
- I soaked some turmeric in water.
- I partially submerged some
turmeric in a container.
After a week, I noticed that the turmeric buds were starting to develop. Interestingly, the turmeric that was partially submerged seemed to be progressing more rapidly. It appears that the key to coaxing turmeric into producing buds is by partially submerging it in water.
23rd September 2023
My gardening experiment with turmeric was off to an exciting start, and I couldn't wait to see how it would develop in the weeks to come.
Update: 7th October 2023
This week is the 3rd week
I noticed that the turmeric plants were thriving at an astonishing rate as soon as I placed them outdoors. My initial plan was to have just two turmeric plants, but to my surprise, all nine of them began to grow vigorously. I decided to patiently observe their progress in the weeks to come.
As of last week, I decided to embark on a potting project to ensure that the turmeric plants would have optimal soil conditions.
This week, the turmeric plants shot up with remarkable growth, as if they had been injected with growth hormones. It was truly astonishing to witness, and all nine of my turmeric plants were thriving. I found myself in a bit of a predicament.
There was one tiny turmeric plant that had started growing roots, but there was no sign of a shoot emerging from the soil. I decided to leave it in the soil and see what would happen. If that tiny turmeric plant did indeed sprout and grow, I would end up with a total of ten plants, which was far more than I had anticipated or planned for. It was quite the unexpected situation to find myself in.
I was curious about the differences between the green leaf turmeric and the ones with a red line running down the middle of the leaf. It had me thinking that I needed to investigate and find out more about these distinctions.
Up to this point, the last two pots have shown no signs of leaves sprouting. I'll have to exercise some patience and wait to see what unfolds in the coming weeks.
